The liver, the largest solid organ in the body, plays a critical role in essential bodily functions. When the liver fails and its damage is irreversible, liver transplantation may be the only life-saving option, as there is no medical or mechanical substitute for its functions.
We offer several types of liver transplantation procedures, depending on the donor source and the surgical technique:
- Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation (DDLT): The liver is transplanted from a donor who has passed away.
- Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT): A portion of the liver is donated by a living person, usually a close relative, as the liver has the ability to regenerate.
- Split Liver Transplantation: In this procedure, a single donor liver is divided and transplanted into two recipients, typically a child and an adult.
- Domino Liver Transplantation: In certain cases, a recipient with a specific metabolic condition receives a liver from a living or deceased donor and their original liver is transplanted into another patient.
- Auxiliary Liver Transplantation: A portion of a donor liver is transplanted alongside the patient’s own liver to provide support while the native liver regenerates or recovers.
Each type of transplantation offers a unique approach, and our team of specialists will carefully evaluate the best option based on individual needs and circumstances.
