Septic shock is a critical condition caused by overwhelming infection leading to dangerously low blood pressure and organ dysfunction. Itβs the most severe form of sepsis and commonly affects patients with pneumonia, urinary tract infections, abdominal infections, or bloodstream infections. The body's immune response becomes dysregulated, damaging tissues and organs.
Treatment includes aggressive fluid resuscitation, vasopressors (to raise blood pressure), antibiotics, and organ support in an ICU setting. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to multiple organ failure and death.
