Hypovolemic shock results from significant loss of blood or fluids—commonly due to trauma, gastrointestinal bleeding, or severe dehydration. The loss reduces the volume of blood the heart can pump, leading to low blood pressure and poor tissue oxygenation.
Symptoms include rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, pale or cold skin, confusion, and reduced urine output. Treatment includes rapid fluid resuscitation (IV fluids or blood transfusion), controlling the source of bleeding, and ICU monitoring.
